P.E.I. declares five individuals in hospital with COVID-19 Saturday

Five people in hospital with covid-19 disease: 

Five individuals are being ministered for COVID-19 at hospitals in P.E.I.

In a release Saturday, the region stated two other people were hospitalized for other causes, but tested positive for the virus, for a count of seven. 

None of the five is in intensive supervision.

That’s likened to eight people who were hospitalized as of Friday morning, one receiving care in the ICU.

Later in the day Friday, the region declared two COVID-related deaths, the first for the region since the pandemic was announced in March of 2020.

In other COVID news Saturday, the Chief Public Health Office has announced an outbreak at St. Eleanor’s House after two individuals in the Summerside addictions recovery home tested positive.

More cases were declared for earlier reported outbreaks, including three at the Atlantic Baptist long-term care facility (where 19 citizens now have COVID-19), one extra case at Miscouche Villa (for a count of nine citizens) and another at Shelters and Outreach Services (for a tally of 10 cases).

Containment efforts have been put in place in all the facilities where outbreaks have been announced, and testing is continuing.
